What is a Telegram Mini App?
A Telegram Mini App is a web app that opens inside Telegram - full screen, in about a second, without leaving the chat or installing anything. Games, booking tools and banks use them. For online stores, a Mini App is a complete storefront in the messenger shoppers already have open.
How a Mini App works
A Mini App is built with ordinary web technology and launched from a bot. Shoppers open it from:
- the menu button next to the message field
- a button in a message ("🛍 Open shop")
- a link like
t.me/yourbot/shop, shared anywhere - a home-screen shortcut, which makes it look and feel like an installed app
Because it runs inside Telegram, the app knows who the shopper is (with their permission). No sign-up, no password, no "create an account to continue".
What a shopping Mini App can do
A good storefront Mini App does everything a mobile shop does:
- home page with banners and featured collections
- collections, search and filters
- product pages with photos, variants and reviews
- a wishlist and a cart
- a hand-over to checkout with the shopper's details filled in
Mini App vs mobile app vs mobile website
| Mini App | Native app | Mobile website | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Install needed | No | Yes | No |
| Sign-in | Automatic | Account | Account or guest |
| Push messages | Free, via the bot | Push (often disabled) | Email/SMS |
| Build cost | Low | High | Already have it |
| App store review | None | Yes | None |
The short version: a Mini App gives you most of the benefits of an app - a home-screen icon, instant sign-in, a messaging channel - at a fraction of the cost. More in Mini App vs mobile app.
Why the bot matters
The Mini App is the shop window; the bot is the shop assistant who calls customers back. Through the bot you can send order updates, abandoned-cart reminders, back-in-stock alerts and broadcasts - all at no cost per message to people who started it.
Do you need developers?
Building a Mini App from scratch means a front end, a back end, catalogue sync, a cart and a checkout integration. For most stores that's months of work.
Platforms like Chat'N'Sell build the Mini App from your existing catalogue. You choose a theme, arrange sections, and products, prices and stock stay synced with WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce or a CSV file - Shopify is coming soon.
Is it safe for shoppers?
Mini Apps run inside Telegram's interface and only receive the details a shopper agrees to share. With Chat'N'Sell, payment happens on your store's own checkout - the Mini App never handles card details.
